Melanin, a Skin Identical antioxidant, naturally protects epidermal keratinocytes by forming a protective cap over DNA that defends against UV light. When applied topically, Melanin acts as a natural sunscreen booster that enhances protection against the entire Solar Constant. In addition, Vitamin D precursors––which are found in the plasma membranes of skin cells—are stimulated with exposure to sunlight and synthesise active Vitamin D, which has photo-protective effects, decreasing DNA damage and oxidative stress while reducing inflammation.
